“By opening our first-ever storefront, we will be able to connect directly with consumers after years of focusing primarily on the wholesale market," said Sallie Austin, the second generation owner of the Dutchess-based company.

This move expands on the family’s longtime tradition of being soap-makers. Austin’s parents -- Karen and Gary -- first developed a line of handmade soap products in 1982 following the birth of their son.

The demand for their all-natural, hypoallergenic products has grown exponentially since then as customers have discovered the healing properties of the company's products, all of which are formulated to treat conditions such as eczema and to manage undereye puffiness and other symptoms.

In another way to keep things local, the company works with Common Ground Farm, located on nine acres leased from the Stony Kill Environmental Center in Wappingers Falls. The Farm cultivates some of the natural ingredients used in SallyeAnder's soaps.

“Your skin is the largest organ in your body; it deserves organic ingredients and products formulated to protect its health and integrity," stressed Austin.

To celebrate the store's opening, there will be a family-friendly party on June 17 from noon to 6 p.m. The event, which is free to the public, will include live music, a soap-making demonstration, a soap-wrapping contest for kids 12 and under, food, beverages and more.
