The business, at 5 Smith Street, was started back in 1956 by Augusta, Ted and Ralph Rogers and it has been served by four generations of the Rogers family.

The property itself dates back to the 1800’s when it was a livery/stable and boarding house. In 1974, the building was purchased by the Rogers family.

Today it is solar powered and filled with 6,000 feet of carpeting samples, area rugs, laminates, luxury vinyl tiles, wood and cork.

“The 'it' color in carpeting now is gray,” said Margaret Ricketts, vice president of Carpet Trends. “People like it because it is neutral but it is both modern and sleek at the same time."

Ricketts has been managing the business for 28 years. After majoring in economics in college, she said she never expected to end up working in retail.

“Carpet Trends is very fortunate to have a staff of experts who have worked there for years," Ricketts said.
