The presentation is free and open to the public.

Dutchess County Chief Forensic Investigator Robert Bready will present the program, which will focus on the role and jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner’s Office, misconceptions regarding why and when autopsies are conducted, and an overview of typical medical examiner's cases. Time will be allotted for questions from the audience.

“In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the forensic sciences, in part due to the popularity of television series, such as ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,’ and related entertainment that center around such topics,” said Dutchess County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Dennis J. Chute. “What the general public may not appreciate, however, is that much of what our office does is mandated by law and that the daily routine of a medical examiner’s office often differs from what is portrayed on television or in the movies.”

The training is free; however, seating is limited and registration is required.

The Medical Reserve Corps of Dutchess County is comprised of both healthcare and non-healthcare volunteers as part of a national network of more than 200,000 volunteers dedicated to supporting public health infrastructure as well as disaster preparedness and response in the community.

For more information about the Medical Reserve Corps, or to register, contact MRC Coordinator Joe Ryan at (845) 486-2493 or jryan@dutchessny.gov. For information on upcoming trainings, visit www.dutchessny.gov/mrc.

The program will begin at 7 p.m.

The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health is at  230 North Road in Poughkeepsie.
