The day -- yes, it's an unofficial holiday (President Reagan proclaimed its glories in 1984 to promote the economic well-being of the U.S. dairy industry) --  is observed on the third Sunday in July and is a part of National Ice Cream Month.

It's meant to be celebrated with a bowl, cup or cone filled with your favorite flavor. And of course, hashtagged and Instagrammed to the hilt with #NationalIceCreamDay.

All we ask is that you also use this July 16 to vote for your favorite ice cream in the county, as highlighted in our ongoing DVlicious contest.

In the running:

You have until 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 and can vote multiple times, albeit once per day.
