Joe’s Dairy Bar, Hopewell Junction
The Scoop: Joe's Dairy Bar prides itself on having a multi-decade, multi-generational love affair with its clients, pleasing customers with both soft serve ice cream (with what they proclaim is the highest butterfat content in the Hudson Valley) as well as 37 flavors of hard ice cream. There are also dozens of toppings for everything from sundaes to ice cream flurries.
The shop also claims to sell more milkshakes than any vendor in the Hudson Valley and has released a line of Manhattan-inspired "Freak Shakes" which are milkshakes bedecked with tons of toppings, including cookies, brownies and more. A photograph of its Monster Burger, in fact, was scouted by The Food TV Network and begot its current favorite, the Monster Cookie, which sold out every day for the first week of being offered to the public.
For those who may need something else, Joe's also offers fat-free no sugar added soft serve yogurt, gluten free flavors, lactose-free vanilla and even gluten free cones.
