PAWLING, N.Y.-- Happy birthday to Pawling's Sally Jessy Raphael.

Raphael, former talk show host known for her eponymous talk show program turns 82 on Saturday.

She was born Sally Lowenthal in Easton, Pa., on Feb.25, 1935.

She hosted her talk show for two decades and was known for the bright red oversized eyeglasses she wears in all public appearances.

Lowenthal was born in Easton, Pa., on Feb. 25, 1935, and graduated from Easton Area High School. She also spent time in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where her father, Jesse Lowenthal, was in the rum exporting business and her mother, Zelda Lowenthal (Dede Lowry), ran an art gallery.

Following her graduation from Columbia University, she became a news correspondent, covering Central America for The Associated Press and United Press International, thanks in large part to her ability to speak both English and Spanish fluently.

Raphael got considerable experience in the media in Puerto Rico, where she worked in both radio and television—one of her jobs was doing a television cooking show.

She worked in Puerto Rico and the United States, as a disc jockey, news reporter, and the host of a show where she interviewed celebrities.

In the early 1980s, Raphael was asked to do a call-in advice show on radio. In the late 1980s, she guest starred as herself in "The Equalizer" episode of "Making of a Martyr".

Raphael hosted a radio call-in advice show on NBC TAlknet, from 1981- 87. She then became host of the "Sally Jessy Raphael Show" (later shortened to simply "Sally"), which ran in first-run syndication from 1983 to 2002.
