Participants exercise for at least 30 minutes and enter their activity at getfithv.com or post about their workout on social media with the hashtag #getfithv. The more entries submitted, the better the chance to win an Apple Watch, Nutribullet Rx, CamelBak hydration pack, Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards and more. Anyone can join and there are no fees. Entries posted on Facebook will only count if the account’s privacy settings are public.

“I love challenges because they help people set fitness goals, stay on track and benefit from the encouragement of a community,” said Dr. Carolyn Nemec, a primary care physician with Health Quest Medical Practice in Poughkeepsie. “When you feel supported, you are more likely to stick to your goals and succeed.”

Popular Get Fit activities include a Walkway Over the Hudson jog, lifting weights or exercise classes at participating gyms, or a bike ride on the Putnam County Trailway. Some new sites include: the Dutchess County and Harlem Valley rail trails, CrossFit OSA in Carmel, IXL Fitness in Rhinebeck and Saugerties, Mike Arteaga’s Health and Fitness Centers in Highland and Poughkeepsie. Visit getfithv.com for the list of more than 60 check-in sites.

Health Quest Community Education Supervisor Wendy Hennessy logged weekly sessions with her family of four.

"We enjoyed participating together, particularly at the parks near our home," Hennessy said. "Hiking is an affordable, fun activity and we plan to keep it up this fall."

Sara Winterleitner, a Dyson Breast Center nurse practitioner, was one of the prizewinners in the spring. "The challenge was a great motivator. I loved seeing other people's social media posts and pictures,” she said.
