The Fine Grind: Located in the Arlington walking district on the cusp of Vassar College, The Crafted Kup got so popular with students that it was losing customers because there simply was no place to sit. That all was fixed this winter when the café increased its seating to 68 from 24 spots.

In addition to the bigger space, Owner Tanner Townsend’s renovation project reportedly happily surprised customers with new furniture and bookcases, which he made himself. He also built a small stage for music and literary events. Now there are plenty of small tables and overstuffed chairs on which to perch, sip and savor.

Most Popular Brew: The Ethiopian blends and lattes get rave reviews as do the baked goodies. Townsend said he hopes to add soups, salads, and sandwiches to the menu soon.
