Sedor Travels Around World, Settles In At Beacon Floral, Gift Shop

BEACON, N.Y. - Courtney Sedor traveled around the world - actually visiting 20 countries in 20 months - before ending up in Beacon, where she opened up her own floral shop and gift boutique last July.

Sedor took over the store formerly known as La Bella Rosa, turning it into Raven Rose Floral & Gift Boutique, and remodeled and restocked the place, making it her own.

"We specialize in modern home decor and gift items, as well as flowers and plants," Sedor told Daily Voice. "And we're a full-service florist, doing weddings, events, etc."

Raven Rose also sells jewelry, lotions, soaps, candles, decorative photo frames, and succulent gardens - which Sedor said are very popular.

The store will be having classes on 'how to' do various floral crafts in the future, starting with a class on how to make a succulent garden. "We'll have a variety of classes themed for different days," Sedor said. "We'll have something for Mother's Day, and we'll have something on how to arrange garden flowers, things like that."

Some of their most popular items include glass sphere salt & pepper shakers, which Sedor said people love so much she can't keep them in stock. "People love how simplistic and modern they look," she said. Paddywax scented candles are also big.

Sedor said customers have responded well to the new look, and new products, inside the store.

"People love how bright and airy it is," she said. "It's warm and welcoming, and they seem to love the unique gift items - things you can't get at the mall."

Sedor worked 16 years in New York City before embarking on her world travels and landing in Beacon, and said she's received a warm welcome from her new community.

"When I came back I didn't want to go back to New York City," she said. "I wanted a small town vibe, and wanted to open my own business... and it's been great.

"The community has been so welcoming," she added. "They made me feel like I am doing the right thing. Everyone has been great."

And after her 20 countries in 20 months blitz, what are Sedor's thoughts on Beacon? "It's just a great town," she said. "It's been lovely... what a great community. And I get to live in this town - and I think that makes a difference."

Raven Rose is located at 474 Main Street in Beacon. The store website can be viewed here, or find them on Facebook.
