Evin Kleinganz, a former star baseball player at Arlington High School, apparently drowned after the canoe he was riding in with two friends, capsized near Norrie Point around 7:30 p.m. Friday night, said Capt. John Watterson.

"The other two were picked up by a passing boater," Watterson said.

Kleinganz, a Poughkeepsie resident, was found the next morning by the Dutchess County Marine Unit, Watterson added.

"We do not expect any foul play at this time," he said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.

The popular former pitcher earned a spot on the Division II baseball team at the College of Saint Rose in Albany as a freshman in 2016. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Kleinganz was a right-handed pitcher who was majoring in forensic psychology at Saint Rose before enrolling at Dutchess County Community College, where he was majoring in criminal justice/law enforcement administration.

"On behalf of Dutchess County, please accept our thoughts & prayers. May there be some comfort in the company of friends & family."
