A family member said Monday that Barney disappeared around noon on July 8 from their village home near the Dover Plains border.
The 4-year-old unaltered male wasn’t wearing a collar, she said, because they were just getting ready to give him a bath.
She added that they have consulted with psychics who believe that Barney is safe with another family.
The family is offering an award of $5,000 in the hopes that it will spur someone to return the dog.
“He’s like our child,” said the woman, who didn’t want to be identified.
Leaflets posted around the community advise anyone spotting Barney not to chase him.
The family suggests taking a photograph and contacting them by calling (847)-334-2608.
