DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Adanma Amaha-Okorafor of Hopewell Junction and her husband, Dr. Amaha Okorafor, were on their way to New Year's Eve Thursday in Poughkeepsie when Adanma began having contractions.

Shortly after the ball dropped and 2015 became 2016, Adanma delivered Dutchess County's first newborn baby of the new calendar year.

Kaima Amaha-Okorafor was born naturally at 4:58 a.m. Friday at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, weighing exactly 8 pounds, well before her due date of Jan. 9.

“This is the best New Year’s gift you can get,” her father said. “She is so beautiful. … Every person can call her Kaima, but she’ll always be daddy’s Pearl.”
