The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert on Wednesday to Dutchess residents regarding the residency of 36-year-old Jerod Sweat, who has reportedly moved from an apartment in Poughkeepsie and is now listed as "homeless."

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Sweat a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated for lifetime registration, though he is eligible to petition for relief in the future.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Sweat had sexual contact and deviate sexual intercourse with his 8-year-old victim in October 1996. He was arrested on sexual abuse charges by the Beacon City Police Department and sentenced to five years in prison in July 1997. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Poughkeepsie City Police Department.
