Hudson Valley Philharmonic To Premiere 'Aurora Borealis'

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Hudson Valley Philharmonic will present the East Coast premiere of “Aurora Borealis,” a visual and musical journey into the northern lights, on Saturday, March 19.

Curtains go up at 8 p.m. at the Bardavon 1869 Opera House, located at 35 Market St. in Poughkeepsie.

The program will feature new works by American classical composer Jennifer Higdon ("blue cathedral") and contemporary Canadian composer John Estacio ("Borealis"), as well as a Stravinsky suite and Brahms’ powerful Symphony no. 2.

Ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert talk by Maestro Randall Craig Fleischer and astronomer Jose Francisco Salgado.

Ticket prices for subscriptions range from $135 to $215, depending on seat location. Single tickets are $34 to $56, also depending on seat location. On the day of the show, student tickets are $20.
