An autopsy conducted by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed the 68-year-old man found with serious injuries several days ago was the victim of a homicide.
The name of the man, James Griffin, was also released the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Grffin died of his injuries on Tuesday.
The criminal investigation is continuing. There is currently no threat to public safety with regard to this incident, police said.

A 68-year-old man found by police several days ago with serious injuries inside his home has died following surgery, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.
The unidentified man was found on Tuesday, Jan. 2, at his home at 2 Wantaugh Avenue after police were contacted for a welfare check by the family who had not been able to contact him, said Det. Lt. Matt Clark.
Responding officers said the man inside had serious injuries. The homeowner was transported by ambulance to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he underwent brain surgery and was put into a medically induced coma, Clark said.
An investigation was immediately begun into the events leading up to the homeowner being injured.
The man died of his injuries on Tuesday, Clark added.
The investigation is continuing.
