NORTH EAST, N.Y. -- John Midwood and John Merwin are leading in the races for a pair of council seats on the North East Town Board, according to unofficial results released on Tuesday by the Dutchess County Board of Elections.

The results show that Midwood received 333 votes, while Merwin got 281.

Incumbent Councilmen Ralph Fedele trails in third place, receiving 256 votes, while Charles Barrett is in fourth place with 197.

Given the margin between Merwin and Fedele, is is unclear when the outcome of the council race will be resolved. A winner will be known once official results are produced, which could occur later in November.

Meanwhile, George Kaye cruised to victory in his uncontested bid for supervisor. Unofficial results show that Kaye received 366 votes.

Incumbent Town Clerk Lisa Cope, who ran unopposed, won re-election; unofficial results show that she received 368 votes.

Dennis Johnson has been elected North East's newest Town Justice, unofficial results show. Johnson, who ran unopposed, received 438 votes.
