MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- Ed Allen, the 32-year-old athletic director at the Millbrook School, has been identified as the driver killed in the head-on collision in Washington in Dutchess County on Saturday morning.

The 9 a.m. crash occurred along Route 44 as Allen's 2006 BMW X5 hit a dump truck, injuring Allen's two young daughters.

Codie Allen, 3, and Tatum Allen, 1, were transported to Westchester Medical Center, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said. One of the children is reported to have suffered serious injuries.

Dutchess County Sheriff's officials, who are investigating, said it appears the car, which was traveling south, crossed into the truck's lane along Route 44 at Bontecou Road.

The dump truck, driven by 47-year-old Richard Colesanti of Hopewell Junction of Poughquag-based Bulldog Concrete, overturned, spilling a load of gravel. Colesanti was not injured, police said.

"It is with heaviest of hearts that we share this tragic news," read a statement posted on the Millbrook School's website late Saturday. "Ed Allen, athletic director and faculty member at Millbrook School, died in a car accident this morning.

"This is an incalculable loss for all who knew and loved Ed, starting with his family. It is an equal tragedy for the Millbrook School community.

"Our focus now is to care for the Allen family and each other at school. Ed and Emily's daughters were also in the car. They are currently being cared for at a regional hospital, and we have every hope that they will fully recover."

An announcement regarding memorial services is expected to come Sunday.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office is looking for witnesses to the accident. Anyone with info should call 845-486-3820.
