MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- An online fundraiser, Compassionate Crowdfunding, for Ed Allen, the 32-year-old athletic director at the Millbrook School, killed in a head-on collision Dec. 5 in Dutchess County, has raised more than $152,000 to date.
The website, set up by friends and family, asks residents, friends and strangers to help the Allen family following the tragedy. "He leaves behind his beautiful wife, Emily, who is pregnant with their third child, and two young daughters, Codie, 3, and Tatum, almost 2. Ed always put family first," the website says.
"While no amount of money will ever ease the pain and loss the Egan and Allen families are going through, every contribution is a show of love and support that will remind them they are not alone. Please continue to keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as our tough little Tatum continues to fight for her life," the request for donations continued.
Checks can be made out to and sent to Emily Allen at 20 Redwood Drive, Somers, NY 10589 or click "donate" to make a credit card donation. All donations from this page are going directly to Emily Allen.
The 9 a.m. crash occurred along Route 44 as Allen's 2006 BMW X5 hit a dump truck, injuring Allen's two young daughters, police said.
The dump truck was driven by 47-year-old Richard Colesanti of Hopewell Junction. The truck, owned by Poughquag-based Bulldog Concrete, overturned, spilling a load of gravel. Colesanti was not injured, police said.
