Levogie Richardson, 44, who faces 25 years to life in prison, was convicted Friday in Dutchess County Court.

He was charged with sexually assaulting a man at a Town of Poughkeepsie homeless shelter in Oct. 2014, said Kristine Whelan, bureau chief of the Special Victims Bureau at the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office.

Richardson was charged with predatory sexual assault because of a prior offense, she said.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree rape in 2002 to the rape of a 17-year-old family member and spent 10 years in prison for that crime, court records show.

Part of the reason for the delay in getting Richardson to trial on the latest charges was due to his being deemed incompetent to stand trial, Whelan said.

Predatory sexual assault is considered one of the most serious sex crimes.
