Feedwater pumps are located on the non-nuclear side of the plant and distribute water to the plant’s four steam generators to be reheated in order to make the steam required to generate electricity.

There was no release of radioactivity and no threat to the safety of workers or the public, according to Entergy.

Plant equipment operated as designed in response to the shutdown.

Unit 2 had been online for 355 continuous days prior to Monday's shutdown.

Unit 3 is currently operating at full power and was returned to service on June 22 following maintenance to replace seals that sit between the reactor vessel and vessel lid.

Indian Point is home to two operating nuclear power plants, Unit 2 and Unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, business and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
