Wassaic Man Charged With Predatory Sexual Assault Against Child

A Wassaic man was charged Tuesday with predatory sexual assault against a child under the age of 13 following a report by a woman who said she had been assaulted as a child, according to the New York State Police.

John W. Moran, 64, was charged after troopers were contacted by a former Wassaic woman who reported she was the victim of a sexual offense. A subsequent investigation revealed that Moran subjected the woman, then a child under the age of 13, to sexual contact that occurred over several years, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the NYSP.

The victim was exposed to the sexual contact at the defendant’s residence in the Town of Amenia, McMorris added.

As the investigation is ongoing, the State Police are asking anyone who may have additional information or who had contact with Moran to call 845-677-7300. All calls will remain confidential.

Moran is being held at the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
