DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A Dutchess County high school teacher has been accused of forcibly touching students at Webutuck Central School in Amenia.
On Wednesday, New York State Police announced the arrest of Webutuck High School teacher Craig Trachtenberg, who has been charged with two counts of forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child following complaints from students.
According to police, the arrest stems from a pair of complaints filed by students of the school district with troopers in Dover Plains. State police said that the investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the New York State Department of Education, and additional charges may be levied against Trachtenberg.
Trachtenberg has been a teacher in Webutuck for nearly three decades, beginning as a science teacher in 1990 before taking over as the district’s technology director in 2006. He was arraigned in the Town of Northeast Court and remains remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. He is due back in court later this year.
