Catherine Mary Culkin, 61, Millbrook Resident

MILLBROOK, N.Y. – Catherine Mary Culkin, of Millbrook, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties. She was 61.

She was born Feb. 12, 1954, to the late Henry Dermott Culkin and Naomi Leith Culkin of Lexington, Va. She became part of the Millbrook community in elementary school. A 1972 graduate of Millbrook High School, she became a successful small-business owner, opening Microsoft Systems Specialists Inc. along with business partner Dawn Roeller, a computer company committed to meeting the operating needs for newspapers around the country. She was a photographer, baker, gardener, world traveler and sportswoman. She could often be found hiking the Millbrook countryside, hunting duck, pheasant, turkey and deer, or simply enjoying nature.

A member of the NRA, she was committed to supporting the outdoorsman of the Hudson Valley, and served on the board for the Federation of Gun Clubs and volunteered for the annual Youth Pheasant Hunt.

She is survived by her mother, Naomi; her sister, Sharon; her son, Aaron, of Millbrook; her daughter, Amy and son-in-law, Ray, of Plano, Texas; and four grandchildren, Taylor Eileen Chadwell, Cameron James Chadwell, Justice Henry Hunt and Tyler Lawson Hunt.

Family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 24, from 2-6 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A celebration of life service will take place Monday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m. at Allen Funeral Home.
