POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Dolores Peluso, a resident of Poughkeepsie, died Monday, June 27. She was 87.

Born May 4, 1929, in Boise, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Helen Root Schneider.

She was a graduate of Boise High School and the College of New Rochelle. Venturing to New York with her father at the age of 19, she worked for AT&T. After a brief marriage to author and playwright Gerald Browne, father of her first son, she married lifetime husband World War II veteran, New Rochelle firefighter, business owner and New York University graduate August "Gus" Peluso in New Rochelle, where they raised their family.

She was a leader for both the Girl and Boy Scouts, always took in and helped people in need and later volunteered for the elderly in her retirement in Florida.

She is survived by her daughter, Rosellen F. Hardt and her husband, Christopher, of Hyde Park, daughter, Julia Bednorz and her husband, Steve, of Boise, daughter, Catherine Spears, of New York City; son, Shama Christopher Peluso, of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Alexis, Jasmine and Cody Spears, Corey, Kyle and Ryan Hardt and Monica, and Meghan; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Baker, of Oregon; sister, Anna Mae Cox, of Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, August F. Peluso; son, David Browne; former husband; two sisters and a brother.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Route 9, Hyde Park. There will be a funeral service at 6 p.m. Burial in Rye will be private.
