MILLBROOK, N.Y. -- Donald J. Abruzzo, of Millbrook, died on Feb. 8. He was 82.
Abruzzo earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Fordham, then worked on a Ph.D. in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Abruzzo knew eight languages, including Sanskrit and Hittite. He worked as a sales representative to gift stores, then took what he called an exit-level job in a restaurant. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He loved classical music, home-cooked food, reading, and Sudoku.
Abruzzo is survived by his wife Daisy, his children Grace, Joseph, Margaret, and Teresa, and his daughter-in-law Joan. He had two granddaughters, Lucy and Mary Rose. He is also survived by a sister, Ann Timke.
