Former Dutchess HS Baseball/Basketball Star Robert Keener, 35, Dies

Former Poughkeepsie resident Robert Keener, 35, died unexpectedly at his home in Syosset on Long Island on Saturday, March 11.

He was the son of Bob and Pat (Whalen) Keener of Poughkeepsie, who survive him. He graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School where he excelled on the baseball and basketball teams. He went on to graduate from Quinnipiac University where he met his future wife, Stacy Spivack. Rob cherished his high school and college friends and maintained close contact until his death.

On June 6, 2009, Rob and Stacy married. Together they had two sons, Cameron and Jackson. Stacy and "the boys" survive at home in Syosset. 

Rob was many things, but most of all, an amazing father, renowned for his videos and animated stories of his sons. He loved his family deeply.

Rob is further survived by his sisters, Tara Keener (Boston) and Kristen Keener Barstow (Paul) (Groton, Ma.), his in-laws, Steve and Linda Spivack his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Marc & Joanna Spivack and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday March 20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. in Poughkeepsie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church 775 Main Street Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Our Lady of Lourdes High School, 131 Boardman Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 in Rob's memory to provide financial assistance for any student wishing to attend Our Lady of Lourdes.
