John Surico, 74, Of Pine Plains

PINE PLAINS, N.Y. – John Surico, a resident of Pine Plains, died Wednesday, March 2. He was 74.

Surico was a lifelong Dutchess County resident, most recently of Pine Plains. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-62. He was a contractor for many years. Early in life, he ran the Fairview Block Co., his family’s business, for his father, Frank. He then went into business for himself, starting Celsius Insulation, specializing in both residential and commercial insulation. Later, he ran Surico Roofing along with his sons and brother. He was a former member and vice commodore of the Rogers Point Boat Club in Hyde Park and a former Freemason.

He is survived by his children, Mark Surico and wife, Lenore, of Poughkeepsie; Frank Surico, of Hyde Park; Dayna Surico-Sherwood, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Steven Vaccaro and wife, Carrie, of New Paltz; and Kelli Boudreau and her husband, Peter, of Myrtle Beach; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Jeannine, Alexandra, Aimee, Arika, Jade, Zack, Jewelia and Jayce; great-grandson, Jace; a sister, Catherine Spross and longtime companion, Robert Marone; a brother, Frank Surico Jr.; his sisters, Bonnie Becker and her husband, Donald; and Isabella Landers and her husband, Kenneth; along with with many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers Jimmy, Donny, Joel, Gary, and David Surico.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 8, from 4-6 p.m at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. A family funeral service will take place at 5 p.m. during the visitation. Military honors will follow.
