Authorities investigate report of GWB jump

UPDATE: Port Authority police early this afternoon said they hadn’t confirmed a witness’ report that a man jumped off the George Washington Bridge late yesterday afternoon.

“A body hasn’t yet been recovered and there’s no video of a jumper,” the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “There’s no car left behind, no note, no property left on the bridge.”

The woman told police she saw a man in a plaid shirt jump from the GWB at 4:30 p.m., Pentangelo said.

NYPD Harbor and Aviation units swept the Hudson River with negative results, he said.

“Right now all we have is ths person’s word,” Pentangelo said. “It’s reported right now as a ‘possible suicide’.”
