Brewster Police Issue Theft Advisory

Residents are being reminded by the Brewster Police Department that by taking a few preventive steps they can help keep car burglars at bay.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables.

Police said to always lock vehicles, close all windows, and take keys and key fobs. It's also important to keep valuables and packages hidden from sight, even in your own driveway.

The same goes when away from home, police said. They suggest parking in a well-lit area and to never leave a vehicle running when not inside.

Another warning: Be aware of your surroundings; people can be watching you while you are concentrating on something else. Report suspicious activity. Play it safe.

And, if the worst does happen and you are burglarized, police said to be ready by having the serial numbers of your property and to report any suspicious activity or thefts.
