Darkness and dropping temperatures make driving especially difficult, the governor said.

“Tonight’s a good night to stay home with your family and watch the snow come down — and not get in the middle of it,” he said (see video below).

“This is a complex storm,” with forecasts ranging from 1 to 2 inches in southernmost New Jersey to 14 inches with blizzard conditions in the northeast, Christie said, adding that it’s expected to continue through the night into tomorrow.

Christie cited a “full statewide mobilization” to clear roadways and railways throughout New Jersey.

Among the other measures: The speed limit on the NJ Turnpike is 40 miles an hour from Newark to the George Washington Bridge.

Christie also warned about potential power outages due to high winds.
