VIDEO: “If you don’t have to drive, please remain home. Stay off the roads,” Gov. Christie said late this afternoon, in urging people to “be smart and be careful” in the middle of a storm called Nemo.

Darkness and dropping temperatures make driving especially difficult, the governor said.

“Tonight’s a good night to stay home with your family and watch the snow come down — and not get in the middle of it,” he said (see video below).

“This is a complex storm,” with forecasts ranging from 1 to 2 inches in southernmost New Jersey to 14 inches with blizzard conditions in the northeast, Christie said, adding that it’s expected to continue through the night into tomorrow.

Christie cited a “full statewide mobilization” to clear roadways and railways throughout New Jersey.

Among the other measures: The speed limit on the NJ Turnpike is 40 miles an hour from Newark to the George Washington Bridge.

Christie also warned about potential power outages due to high winds.
