A man and woman are both behind bars following a domestic dispute in Dover, state police said.

The dispute occurred on Friday, Jan. 19 at Crestwood Manor. An investigation revealed that 26-year-old Renee L. Whiteman strangled and punched the victim with a closed fist in the face, state police said.

Thomas Brown was found to have been at the residence at the time of the dispute in violation of a served order of protection with a conviction for the same within five years.

Whiteman was charged with third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing, both Class A misdemeanors, and Brown with criminal contempt in the first degree, a Class E felony.

Whiteman and Brown were both arraigned before the Town of Dover Court. Whiteman was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail or $1,000 bond, and Brown remanded in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
