Troopers stopped Fishkill resident Brian Smith, 46, on Thursday on Route 17 in Mamakating, when he committed a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the subsequent traffic stop, it was determined that Smith was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

The following day, state police in Monroe arrested Florida resident William Lees, 61, for driving while intoxicated after he was stopped for a violation in Warwick and it was determined he too was impaired.

In the past week, more than a dozen motorists have been nabbed for driving while intoxicated in the Hudson Valley as police continue their crackdown on impaired driving during the holiday season.

Other DWI arrests were made by state police in Catskill and Greenville. Each of the four was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. They are all due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
