DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Poughkeepsie man was charged Saturday night with a felony count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, police said.
A Dutchess County Deputy Sheriff said he observed a 2008 Chrysler, speeding and driving erratically northbound on South Road (State Route 9) in the Town of Poughkeepsie at around 1 a.m. April 9.
An investigation revealed that the driver, Steven J. Bartholf, 40, of Poughkeepsie, was impaired by drugs and illegally possessed a controlled substance, police said.
Bartholf was arrested and charged with a felony count of DWAI by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, a misdemeanor, as well as other traffic infractions.
The DWAI Drug charge was a felony since he had a prior conviction for DWAI Drugs within the past 10 years. That conviction was on Oct. 18, 2007 in the Town of Lloyd in Ulster County, police said.
Bartholf was released pending an April 25 court appearance in Poughkeepsie.
