Captain Scott K Hamill, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department, said two men and two women from St. Lawrence County were arrested on felony drug charges after deputies discovered heroin and cocaine in their car. They were being questioned while parked at the Super 8 Motel in the Town of Wallkill, Hamill said in a press statement.
Subsequent to the initial arrest, a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of about 160 grams of heroin and about 54 grams of cocaine along with several controlled medications. The illegal narcotics have a combined street value in excess of $170,000, Hamill estimated.
Arrested were: Matthew Allen, 29, of Massena; Chase Baxter, 22, of Norfolk; Abby Smithers, 20, and Leann Main, 27, both of Ogdensburg. All were charged with second- and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
They were arraigned before Wallkill Town Justice Green and sent to the Orange County Jail without bail.
Sheriff Carl E. DuBois said: “I commend the deputies for their observation skills and diligence. Arrests like this are a direct reflection of the personnel and training received at the Orange County Sheriff’s Office."
