Hudson thieves target ‘Obama Girl’

ONLY ON CVP: “Obama Girl” Amber Lee Ettinger had more than $5,000 worth of valuables taken right from under security guards’ noses as she moved out of her West New York apartment overlooking Manhattan.

“We did not hire a moving company,” Ettinger told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Our truck wasn’t big enough and we were rushing to get out because painters were in our apartment. So we left things in the loading dock and it was raided.”

Ettinger, a self-made, high-demand fashion model who recently branched out into TV work, became famous for starring in the video “(I’ve Got a) Crush on Obama.

Poor-quality video obtained by CLIFFVIEW PILOT shows several people wandering into a private area of the building, rifling through Ettinger’s belongings, and then walking off with the booty.

Some of them actually rip the tape off packing boxes and try to open a suitcase to see what’s inside. Meanwhile, painters were readying the condo for the landlord’s new tenants.

Ettinger sat with a concierge Monday at 22 Avenue at Port Imperial and watched people coming in and walking out — with her things. She plans to meet with West New York detectives there today.

The Pennsylvania native, who has since relocated to Manhattan, was unable to get an explanation why security officers hired to patrol the Grandview complex — steps from the Ben & Jerry’s and across from the A&P near the Weehawken ferry — were nowhere to be found.

More than five years after construction began, the condos and apartments at Grandview have yet to be completed, with a hole in the ground still occupying what was once supposed to be a building for tenants 55 and over. At the same time, a Son Cubano restaurant and other retailers reportedly are moving in, to join Starbuck’s, Wachovia Bank, a nail salon, dry cleaners and liquor store.

Ettinger’s third-floor apartment at 22 Avenue had a panoramic view, from the George Washington Bridge to the Verrazano, and all of Manhattan and the Bronx in between, literally a stone’s throw from the Hudson.

Ettinger, who earlier this year signed with the mega-talent agency Wilhemina Models, called the experience “a nightmare.” She could live without the Playstation and wires, cordless phone, steam cleaner, mini-vac, cable modem, lampshade and various other items taken.

But a stolen video camera holds priceless wedding footage of her brother and his new wife. What’s more, the thieves took framed modeling photos and headshots, as well as various awards and trophies that the talented twenty-something won.

“I’m so stressed at this point, I don’t know what to do,” Ettinger told CLIFFVIEWPILOT.COM early this morning. “You can’t replace those kinds of memories.”
