Putnam County Sheriff Donald Smith said Friday that 31-year-old Daniel Hutchby was arrested on drug charges earlier this month after committing a traffic violation that led to the fateful stop.

According to Smith, shortly before 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin pulled over Hutchby on Route 311, and during the subsequent stop, it was determined that he was in possession of “a quantity of heroin and a hypodermic needle.”

Hutchby was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminally possessing a hypodermic instrument. He was booked at the Sheriff’s Office and released on his own recognizance. Hutchby is due back in court later this year and faces up to a year in jail or fines.
