New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a Hook Road residence in Hyde Park on June 28, where there was a report of a domestic abuse following an emergency call to law enforcement.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers and members of the Hyde Park Police Department spoke with the victim, who was “reluctant to speak,” and subsequently was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center, with “serious injuries.” Further investigation into the incident led police to their suspect, Rhinebeck resident Michael Nicholas.

A warrant for Nicholas, 32, was issued by the Town of Hyde Park Court on July 14 and the following day, he turned himself in to State Police, when he was charged with a felony count of second-degree assault.

Following arraignment, Nicholas was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail. He is due to appear in Hyde Park Court on Thursday to answer the charge.
