Man Nabbed In Town Of Poughkeepsie Burglary Attempt

A 30-year-old man was arrested while attempting to break into an occupied home through a window, Town of Poughkeepsie Police said.

Rodarius Smith of Poughkeepsie after receiving a 911 call on June 14 from a resident at the Mountain Brook Apartments reporting a person attempting to break in through the first-floor window, said Capt. Kevin Faber.

When officers arrived on scene Faber fled on foot but was captured a short time later with the assistance of the Town of Poughkeepsie K-9 Team, Faber said.

During an investigation Smith was found to be in possession of s stolen bike belonging to a second victim, Faber added.

Smith was charged with two counts of attempted burglary and criminal possession of stolen property. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 cash/$100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. 

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and the City of Poughkeepsie Police assisted at the scene.
