Older Man Tries To Lure Child Into Van, Dutchess Sheriff Says

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is warning parents to make their children aware of “stranger danger” after a Union Vale Middle School student was approached by a suspicious man in a van.

The Arlington Central School District issued an alert to parents after being notified by the Sheriff that a student was approached by the man on Susan Drive in Beekman after she was dropped off by the school bus.

According to the district, the man asked her if she needed a ride, and when she responded negatively, the man drove away.

Police describe the man as being in his 50s, with gray hair and a nose piercing. He was driving a late model black minivan with tinted windows.

The incident is actively being investigated. Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office by calling (845) 486-3800.
