David Patton, 65, of Danbury, Conn., died Tuesday at Westchester Medical Center, where he had been airlifted following the crash, said Trooper Melissa McMorris.

The crash occurred around 12:42 p.m. after a Carmel woman, traveling westbound on I-84 failed to see the traffic in front of her slowing down and struck the rear of a Toyota Avalon, setting off a chain-reaction that ended with five vehicles, including an International Harvester crashing into each other, McMorris said.

Patton was a passenger in the Avalon, state police said.

In all, six people were injured, three seriously, state police said.

State Police are not sure if Patton is related to another injured victim, 96-year-old John Patton of Danbury, who was a passenger in the same car.

"The main thing we are focusing on at this time if asking for witnesses to the crash to come forward," said McMorris.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact the Brewster Bureau of Criminal Investigation by calling 845-677-7300.
