New York State Police troopers patrolled Banksville-Bedford Road at approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday to continue an active bench warrant investigation for 37-year-old Martinez Lazaro, who is wanted after receiving a DWI charge and failing to appear for court proceedings.

Police said that troopers observed Lazaro commit a traffic violation, and during the subsequent stop, it was determined he was intoxicated while his license was suspended for a second DWI conviction.

Lazaro was arrested and charged with felony counts of driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was also cited for bail jumping and using a vehicle without an Interlock device, both misdemeanors.

Following arraignment for the active bench warrant, Lazaro was remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or bond. He is due back in the Village of Brewster Justice Court on Nov. 29 to answer the charges.
