Erik Thompson, 38, was charged with robbery and possession of a weapon after Fishkill police tracked him down with the use of a K-9 officer and help from the Wappingers Falls Police Department, said Lt. Thomas Lindert.

The hunt for Thompson, who got away with money from the cash register, began after officers responded to the store at the intersection of Route 52 and Old Glenham Road at 11:59 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery, Lindert said.

Lindert said the employee told them Thompson jumped the counter and threatened him with the knife while demanding the money. He then fled on foot, heading toward Route 52, Lindert said.

With the assistance of the Village of Wappingers Falls police, including their K9, police were able to track Thompson to the area of Millholland Drive, police said.

After more than an hour, officers located Thompson in a parking lot in the area of Route 52 and I-84, where he was arrested, Lindert added.

Thompson is being held pending his arraignment in the Town of Fishkill Justice Court.
