Woman Cashes Forged $1.1K Check In Dutchess, Police Say

A 38-year-old woman is facing two felony charges after state police say she forged a woman's signature and cashed a check at a Dutchess bank totaling more than $1,100.

Troopers responded to a complaint of a stolen check in Chelsea Cove in the Town of Beekman.  An investigation determined that Daria E. Murtagh of Poughkeepsie fraudulently forged the complaint’s signature and then cashed the check totaling $1,100.75 at Wells Fargo Bank in Poughkeepsie, police said.

Murtagh was charged with second-degree forgery, a Class D felony and fourth-degree grand larceny, a Class E felony.

Murtagh was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Beekman Justice Court on Nov. 9.
