Former presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders issued a pre-Election Day appeal Thursday, urging supporters of progressive Zephyr Teachout to make every effort to send her to the U.S. House of Representatives, according to The Huffington Post.
Teachout, who is running against Republican John Faso to represent the 19th District, is close with the Vermont senator, who spoke at a Teachout rally in September and has been urging his own followers to support her for months, according to The Huffington Post.
Taking a page from his own playbook, Sanders in an email Thursday discussed Teachout’s campaign in terms similar to his own, calling it a battle between billionaires and the working class, according to The Huffington Post.
Teachout has raised about $1.6 million for her campaign using the same low-denomination donor strategy that endeared Sanders to so many, according to The Huffington Post, which reported that polls indicate the race for the 19th District seat is too close to call.
Faso, a former New York State assemblyman, has benefited from two wealthy donors who each have donated $500,000 to a super PAC supporting the Republican, according to The Huffington Post.
