In the 19th Congressional District, which covers most of Dutchess, Zephyr Teachout, a progressive who primaried Andrew Cuomo for governor in 2014, faces off against Republican John Faso, who previously ran for governor in 2006.

The two are running to replace Chris Gibson, who declined to run for re-election. A poll conducted by WNYT in Albany had Teachout up 45-42 with 13 percent undecided. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, $8 million in outside money has been spent on the race.

Democrats hope a Teachout win could help in the party's longshot bid to take back the House. Chris Hayes, the incumbent, declined to run for re-election.

In the 18th Congressional District, which covers Southern Dutchess, Sean Patrick Maloney (D-Cold Spring) is running for a third term against Republican challenger Phil Oliva.

Sen. Sue Serino (R-Hyde Park) and Democratic challenger Terry Gipson are once again facing off to represent the 41st Senate District. Serino defeated then-Sen. Gipson to take the seat in 2014.

Sen. Terrence Murphy (R-Yorktown) is looking to be re-elected to a second term in the 40th senate district when he faces challenger Ali Boak, a Democrat who lives in Pound Ridge.

In the 103rd Assembly district, Democrat incumbent Kevin Cahill faces Conservative challenger Jack Hayes. Incumbent Frank Skartados, a Democrat faces William Banuchi, Sr., a Conservative, in the 104th Assembly district.

Incumbent Republican Kieran Michael Lalor is being challenged by Democrat Joseph Torres in the 105th Assembly district while incumbent Didi Barrett, a Democrat, faces Republican challenger Terry Sullivan.
