The vote Tuesday was 5-3, passing the alternative veterans tax exemption, said the Poughkeepsie Journal.

A public hearing was held before the vote, the Poughkeepsie Journal said.

Veterans had been appealing to the school board to grant the exemption after a New York law was amended in 2013 to allow the exemptions, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal report.
