Schools are ranked using both achievement information, like standardized test results, and also "college readiness indicators," like the number of counselors, SAT and ACT participation and performance, and advanced classes participation and performance.
Red Hook Senior High School came in at No. 350. It had a 97.5 percent graduation rate, with 87.9 percent of its students college-bound. Its college readiness score was 75.4 percent.
Rhinebeck High School was ranked 388th. Its graduation rate was 94 percent, 94.9 percent were heading to college and college readiness was assessed at 75.1 percent.
The top five schools in the country are Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, in Alexandria, Va.; Academy for Math, Science and Engineering, in Rockaway, N.J.; Stuyvesant High School, in New York City; Union County Magnet High School, in Scotch Plains, N.J; and the Early College at Guilford, in Greensboro, N.C.
