The Pleasant Valley native, who graduated Arlington High School, was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the Major League Baseball draft June 14.

While at the University of Michigan, Lugbauer led the Wolverines with 11 home runs, 58 RBIs, total bases and had an OPS of .917, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in his junior season.

Though he played third base this season, Lugbauer will be catching for the Braves.

Talking Chop, an Atlanta Braves blog, called Lugbauer a versatile defender who has huge power. The site praised the pick, giving it a B/B+ depending on how much money the Braves had to spend draft picks. Talking Chop said they expect Lugbauer to sign with the Braves.

At Arlington, Lugbauer was named all-state, all-selection, all-region and was the Dutchess County and MSG Varsity Player of the Year in his senior season.
