PAWLING, N.Y. -- The Pawling High School girls basketball team only managed three wins last winter, and missed playing in the postseason sectional tournament.
This winter's team is looking to change all that.
Tigers coach John Sullivan returns for his fifth season with the team, and said enthusiasm is high.
"We have a lot of young, really excited kids," Sullivan told Daily Voice. "We have a few older kids who have been with the program for a couple of years now, and we're developing and working hard. Our goal is to get better every day."
Returning junior Mackenzie Meissner, an All-League pick last season, is one of the players the Tigers will rely on. But Sullivan said his team's seniors will lead the way for the younger players.
"We'll look to our seniors for leadership," Sullivan said. "We have a lot of younger kids, freshman and sophomores, so I'm looking for some leadership from our older players. They know what's going on, so they'll give some help to the younger kids.
"Our goal every year is to reach sectionals," Sullivan added. "And that's what they want to do. Especially the seniors - they've worked really hard for four years, and they want to leave on a positive note."
