Somers had two state championship teams this fall -- football and boys soccer -- and now the Town of Somers and Somers High School will be celebrating all four of the school's state championship teams (including the 2014 state champion girls soccer team and the 2004 state champion boys cross country team) with a celebration set for Saturday, Dec. 10.

"I think it's a really special thing," Tim Fulton, coach of that 2004 state champion cross country team, told Daily Voice. "It's obviously different when football wins... football is part of the culture, and they could have just honored them.

"But I like that they're going back and honoring those teams (and individuals)," Fulton added. "I went to Somers, coached at Somers, and I'm a Tusker through and through."

Individual state champs also to be part of the celebration include  three-time wrestling state champion Brian Realbuto (2009, 2011, 2012), and state champ Dylan Realbuto (2012).

A celebratory parade is set to step off at 2 p.m. from a staging area at Van Tassel Park, and will proceed on Route 139 to the high school entrance, and up to the first turf field, where a ceremony will be held.

The teams will be welcomed by Somers Athletic Director Roman Catalino, and proclamations will be made by Town Supervisor Rick Morrissey and Board of Legislature Chairman Mike Kaplowitz. School Superintendent Dr. Raymond Blanch will close the ceremonies.

According to the Somers athletic department, all current students, alumni, parents and community members are invited to attend this very special occasion.
